What to expect from working with me as a LMHC – The decision to transition from practicing veterinary medicine to mental health counseling stemmed from my own struggles as both a human and veterinarian. This led me to study, discover and learn life affirming therapeutic practices. The way I work is from the model of Hakomi that has the central idea that the experiences that you are having day to day, the thing that has you reaching out for therapy, have roots in decisions that you made earlier in life. We made these early survival adaptations that were all deeply intelligent, however are now constrictive and limiting. For some of us there was so little of the type of reflection and needs being met that we pulled into ourselves instead of reaching out because it wasn’t available. We’ll be paying attention moment to moment with curiosity to how this shows up in the body as 95% of what’s happening lives in unawareness. When we are able to slow down together and bring awareness to these automatic ways, we can then start to see new possibilities and make different choices. This supportive and guided self discovery welcomes and allows for a deeper understanding of your strengths and struggles. With greater awareness and curiosity, we are open to more aliveness and a more integrated way of being.
